Initial Person on Scene – level 3

The TQUK Level 3 & 4 Initial Person On Scene is a significant step up from the First Aid at Work Award. The course is recognised for SIA registered Close Protection Officers. The course is not a basic first aid qualification, this course introduces the initial person on scene to patient care, patient observations, catastrophic bleeding and much more over two intensive four day sessions. It is designed to give advanced first aid skills in a pre-hospital environment prior to the arrival of the emergency services.
Level 3 concentrates on enhancing knowledge that is learnt on a basic First Aid at Work course and level 4 increase the skill set of the medic in the use of airway management and other pre-hospital life saving skills.

Course syllabus – level 3

  • Understand how to respond to an incident
  • Understand how to minimise the spread of infection
  • Be able to assess the scene of an incident to protect the safety of self and casualty
  • Be able to assess and manage a casualty
  • Understand how to hand over the casualty to the ambulance service
  • Understand basic life support
  • Be able to apply the principles of basic life support
  • Be able to hand over the casualty to the ambulance service
  • Understand how to recognise and manage musculoskeletal injuries
  • Be able to recognise and manage musculoskeletal injuries
  • Understand how to recognise and manage serious external bleeding
  • Understand how to recognise and manage thermal damage to the skin
  • Be able to recognise and manage thermal damage to the skin
  • Be able to recognise and manage shock
  • Be able to recognise and manage traumatic eye injuries
  • Be able to recognise and manage a casualty having a seizure
  • Be able to recognise and manage a casualty in a diabetic emergency
  • Be able to recognise and manage heart conditions
  • Be able to recognise and manage a stroke
  • Understand how to recognise and manage a casualty who may have been poisoned
  • Be able to recognise and manage anaphylactic shock
  • Be able to recognise and manage an asthma attack
